We got a total of 1200+ signatures for our petition (thank you everyone who signed and commented!!). Sadly, the Athon Chair decided to ignore it completely, saying that it wasn't 'fair' to have artists from all over the world voting. Which doesn't make sense with his argument or stance, because he wants the entire world to see and accept his system.
At any rate they made a poll to help themselves on Anime-Alberta.org and it ended up proving they were in the minority, again. He is, however, after many a compelling argument, beginning to see the benefits of having a fixed table rate opposed to no table rate + a 20% tax cut.
Oh the drama.
For those of you who have not seen or heard yet, there is a little petition going around supporting rights and equality for artists who attend the Artist Alley at a local convention here in Canada, Animethon. It is held in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. The Artist Alley has implemented a new system (which is merely a gross exaggeration of the previous system) which abuses and takes advantage of artists who are successful at selling their artwork (you can read more about the system at : [link]). This doesn't seem to the phase the administration of the convention and they have shown to have little to no respect for ' popular' artists, dismissing their opinions and telling them that if they happen to do well, and do not want to be punished for it, they are obviously greedy and should sign up for the Dealers room.
Please go to : [link] . Read the journal and come to your own conclusions. If you feel their system is invalid, insulting and unfair please sign the petition against it. If we gain enough signatures, the chair has agreed to change the Artist Alley at Animethon.
For those of you who are Albertan and wish to have a more in depth view of this matter on neutral grounds, please check out the ongoing discussion at : [link]

Unfortunately this is still relevant to artists who live outside of Alberta, or even outside of Canada. Because the Chairman of Animethon feels so passionately about their system, he has announced that he will be starting his own petition (and mission) to convert all over conventions to this ludicrous taxation set-up (again if you don't know what I mean, please read `budgie's journal @ [link]). This petition is not only protecting those artists who are Albertan, but also voicing the opinion of North America and the World if necessary. If you disagree with this system and support the equality of all artists, please sign the Petition.
The link to read a more in depth journal on this can be found over at : [link] . That journal will give you a more clear understanding of exactly what this Artist Alley and Convention are trying to do.

I just went to the post office today and sent out a massive batch of buttons and charms. So be expecting them in 2 - 3 weeks, and if you're international, 4 -5 weeks. I've scrawled 'fragile' all over them and packed them with bubble wrap. Unfortunately the shipping came out a little more than I anticipated, so I'll probably be upping the shipping cost by $1 USD to cover that. Also, Overseas shipping will be a little more, because it gets quite pricey.

to all artist this sucks good or not
there or somewhere else
just to have like a table next to someone who's work sells well means there's a chance someone will see your stuff
isn't that what's it about being noticed? and learning to get better for next time? *sigh*

It's a horrible abuse of an artist's hard work--and should not be encouraged by having artists go ahead with applying for a table.
I'd encourage other artists to stay away from events like this where management abuses the artists like this. Don't partake in it. There are several other conventions that practice much more fairness towards their artists.
By knowing this system and disagreeing with it--but taking part in it anyways, the management at Animethon aren't really going to bat an eye at how sulky artists are behind their table--while handing handing them a decent amount of the profit the art makes.
I'd personally give them a little more hell than a little petition. I'd let them know that they aren't the only convention with an AA and show them that they're doing it wrong--by facing them a striking absence of artist attendance.
But that's just me. I think that people who pull this kind of crap are simply not worth my time or effort.

How much poo can a puchu chew if a puchu could chew poo!!!
If he wasn't trying to do some holy mission and convert ALL conventions, I might not be so offended.
And don;t worry about showing them. This has been an ongoing debate over notes, MSN and other private messages. Budgie has tried to show them, made good examples, good arguments, but they will have none of it. Budgie is going to write a full article on them and all that she has done to try and convince them otherwise.
